How to improve
High-scoring responses – a clear way to stand out:
- show a deeper and more nuanced reading of the text.
- distinguish between viewpoints/”call to action” and background/contextual information
- demonstrate that you know which are the most important techniques (those that best support the main viewpoints)
- show connections between the techniques to better extrapolate meaning from the text
- work your analytical sentences and explore purpose (on more than level) (avoid summarising)
- work on your comparison of viewpoints – again show you understand the nuances of each text.
- a smart structure will enable you to do a better job
You must avoid:
- a generalised discussion and a simplistic emphasis on techniques
- summary-style evaluation of quotes
- a list-style of discussion
