We have been working on language features linked to comparisons.
See the Pink Book: The Craft of Writing:
- similarities and differences, p. 26
- comparisons, p. 27
- juxtapositions, p. 28
- analogies, p. 29
- distinctions and differences, p. 30
- symbolism, p. 33
- recurring symbols and extended metaphors, p. 35
- allusions and intertextual references, p. 41.
Please use the terminology to analyse the pieces we analysed in our class. Please send through sentences:
- Schools right now face a choice: fight the wave of ChatGPT or surf it by Adam Voigt,
- Listen to those on the front line of knife crisis, The Editorial from The Age
- Teenage Ebola – by Michael Carr Gregg
- Please do a page in the blue book – say p 34 or p 36.
We are using our language features to gain more polish and style, to analyse a text more accurately and to draw out the author’s key ideas, views, values and message. These are critical to your text response essays; they are also critical to your personal writing pieces and to argument analysis.
Next week, I’ll also include a poem and we’ll analyse poetic devices and symbols.
