Q: I’m thinking of doing English Language. How can these sessions help?
The lessons are useful for students who are thinking of studying English Language.
- You need to demonstrate an ability to understand and convey complex ideas (social purpose/function etc.)
- Your expression must be sophisticated.
- You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the linguistic features of formal language.
- In English Language you will consider the discourse features (codes and conventions) of a text: the persuasive techniques are considered to be a “discourse feature” of opinion-based texts.
- In English Language you will also consider the stylistic features of a text: the rhyming, figurative and emotive word choices are part of an author’s stylistic patterning devices.
- In English Language you will cover social purpose: This refers to the author’s viewpoints and intentions.
- In English Language you need to double down on your technical ability.
