English Language Classes: Dates and Times

 

Term 3: Please note: The focus will be on Section C: writing, writing, writing: essay planning (topic sentences/quotes/evidence); Section 2: analytical commentaries (context/stylistic and discourse features/social purpose and degree of formality/informality) as well as Section: specific short answer questions. The standard of writing is high for English Language.

Summary of the subsystems which is at the basis of everything you will do in English Language

Area Studies and Notes:

  1.  Public language: inclusive and exclusive Language (slang and jargon; euphemism and doublespeak: language reflects social values)
  2. Formal and Informal Language  (Slang and Jargon: euphemisms and dysphemisms)
  3. Factors driving Language Change  (Globalisation and Americanisation)
  4. Language and Identity  : the Vernacular/ broad Australian accent; teenspeak and slang; aboriginal languages
  5. Commentary Structure
