- Do not write everything in one sentence. You will leave too much “unsaid” and unspoken.
- Dissect key ideas; keep unpacking
- Read your paragraph – underline your language features – how do they support the key idea?

Consider your sentence styles and structures.
Parallel clause constructions:
“Whenever a friend passed me a note, whenever I saw a folded piece of paper, whenever the zip on my backpack was partly undone when I returned to it after a class, my stomach would flip and turn … This is how it haunts us. This is how it stalks.” (193 The Hate Race/Clarke)
