Homework tasks

Sunday 7th September

Task 1: Youth unemployment

Summarise the stories of Arie and Nick as case studies. Firstly, analyse the big picture concept : the individual’s thoughts and feelings.

Use experts and statistics from the Age Editorial to place their problems in a social context and explain the consequences and solutions.

Task 2:

Rework key paragraphs in the essay on animal farm: Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts. Purpose is to use TEEL to good effect: sophistication of ideas and expression; explain Orwell’s intentions and the consequences; use literary devices (comparisons); word choice;  textual evidence and quotes

Write two or three paragraphs on:

  • control of history (cf and contrast versions of Battle of Cowshed)
  • grab for power and privileges: undermining key commandments
  • fear and violence

Use notes on Battle of Cowshed. See Notes on Animal Farm.
