The 8th Juror maintains a calm and phlegmatic attitude.
Narrative elements: The 3rd juror takes an indignant, hostile, mortified stance towards the young boy. He has a dysfunctional relationship with his own son; He has the parental attitude that the child should show unswerving respect and gratitude towards the father. He wants the son to be strong and aggressive; he equates strength with masculinity and aggression.
Rose states in the stage directions that “He breaks off” and that he has “said more than he intended to” ; a reference to his sensitivities; a reference to the fact that he divulged embarrassing and personal information that touches on his prejudice that he does not want to recognise.
