We will work through a range of targeted tasks to improve our writing, reading and written skills
In the lesson, we’ll be zooming in on key quotes and story-telling devices. You will be writing sentences (via the chat function). In the sentence, you will contextualise and evaluate the quote and unpack its significance. You will like the quote with the author’s language features and key ideas.
I will “collect” and analyse the sentences. For example, see the sentence evaluation.

- Reading, writing an analysing texts: Textbook: An Australian Anthology: See An Australian Anthology: a snapshot of literary landscapes. We will read a story each week and practice text response skills. We will do a range of written tasks. Please see samples: The Face in the Mirror by Blossom Beeby (2008), p. 59. This home page will be constantly updated with students’ examples and my comments/feedback.
- Writing essays: Text response skills: How to write an A + Text response
- Argument Analysis and Persuasive techniques: analysing techniques and writing essays on opinion pieces:: Vocab Builder for Argument Analysis: a perfect way to perfect our metalanguage for argument analysis and persuasive techniques. We will apply these terms to a range of Letters to the Editor. (I choose “Letters” written by professionals; ones with a polished turn of phrase and which use the terminology that we want to emulate.)
- As you write your sentences, and build your paragraphs (expressing complex thoughts), we will keep an eye on your grammatical constructions. I will “collect” your sentences and analyse any commonly recurring grammatical errors. We will use as a guide, the Grammar Check
The package of 4 booklets for students who do online lessons is $40 + $6 postage. (An Australian Anthology: a snapshot of literary landscapes; Analytical Vocab Builder; How to write an A+ text response; Grammar Check).
