English Works is preparing several slideshows for teachers and students. The following slideshow helps students write a sophisticated essay by accurately identifying the persuasive strategies that are critical to an author’s views. It is important to prioritise these techniques, analyse the author’s choice of words that support these strategies and identify their impact. (Not all techniques are as important as each other.) Preferably each paragraph should have a different focus as students progress through the essay.
