A sound structure is the key to a good essay. You must demonstrate an insightful grasp of each opinion-writer’s key viewpoints, values and argument strategies. You must hone in on the quotes that best reveal the opinion-writer’s tone, style, attitude and call to action.

Over the years, I have written numerous sample responses, including responses to past VCAA Year 12 Section C pieces. I’ve compiled these, plus essay tips, plus my favourite metalanguage into my new workbook “Argument Analysis and Persuasive Language: How to write an A+ essay”.
I hold regular classes on Argument Analysis for VCE students. Keep reading as many editorials and opinion pieces as you can. This will keep you in the habit of reading formal, well written pieces.
