Exercise 12: Should the government ban child beauty pageants?

Your Paragraph (p. 34)

First reason:  Government officials and policy officers should ban beauty pageants because they encourage young girls to judge their self-worth on their appearance and this can lead to psychological problems.

OR

Beauty pageants should be banned because they place too much emphasis on physical appearance and this can lead to low-self esteem issues among the entrants.

  • Include references to the psychologist/expert. Include a personal story about “Clare” who suffers from anxiety or who has self-doubts. Explain her anxieties; for example, she refuses to come out of her room unless she wears makeup or she is constantly biting her nails. Clare is always crying and is very fragile at times showing signs of an eating disorder.
