Argument Analysis Zoom class

Please see Schedule for Argument Analysis and English Extension

The best preparation for VCE is to fine-tune your essay-writing skills, polish your written expression, and improve your depth of analysis by using appropriate metalanguage.

In each class we will:

  • Analyse a selection of Letters to the Editor and The Age editorials and opinion pieces: (evaluate viewpoints; argument and persuasive techniques; written expression and key phrases; grammatical devices; clarity of expression). You must study formal Australian English.
  • Essay-writing skills: perfect text response work using our anthologies and selected texts such as The Hate Race; your essays must show a progression of thought, as well as depth of analysis and clarity of expression). (You must constantly write paragraphs and plans, and workshop your essays taking into account the feedback in the lessons; two handwritten essays per year on a text does not equal good essay-writing skills.)
  • Work on depth of analysis and expression: we will study a poem each lesson working on poetic techniques, clarity of expression and multi-layered evaluations.
