Ransom by David Malouf (The “I” is “remade”: King Priam’s journey)

$35.00

“The “I” is remade: King Priam’s leadership style”  by Dr Jennifer Minter (English Works)

King Priam’s journey to retrieve the body of his son, Hector, though instigated by forces beyond his control, requires leadership skills.

In Ransom, the “tales told in the margins” of Homer’s Iliad, Malouf re-imagines the ancient Greek perception that heroism and bravery are earned through acts of aggression.

This 30-page Resource package focuses on Malouf’s key themes and concerns. It includes students’ sample essays; quotes and background material.

This 30-page Resource package focuses on Malouf’s key themes and concerns. It includes students’ sample essays; quotes and background material.

David Malouf’s, ‘Ransom’ is set in the historical context of the Trojan War – a time where men win honour and glory by fighting and performing valiant acts on the battlefield. Although the novel is focussed on the broad theme of war and the actions of several heroes on the battlefield, it also explores the notion of physical and moral courage.
