It is imperative that health policy makers implement a sugar tax in order to reduce sugar consumption among Australian consumers. A sugar tax will deter consumers from buying an excessive amount of sugary drinks. For example consumers are likely to resist buying bottles of coke if they cost $10
It has been proven that there is a clear link between the excessive consumption of sugar and rising obesity rates among Australian adults. .. (It leads to diabetics, dental problems and obesity-related diseases)
(Connor Clowd is typical of Australian children who consume up at least one sugary drink every day, and are become increasingly obese. Every day, he consumes a can of coke every day, and eats a packet of lollies. He has become so accustomed to the taste of sugar that he becomes agitate if he does not have sugary drink. Furthermore, he does not eat vegetables.
The government has introduced taxes on other products with considerable success and for this reason a tax on sugar is likely to lead reduced consumption. There are fewer smokers (there has been a reduction in smoking) because of the exorbitant taxes on cigarettes. Likewise, it is estimated that obesity levels would also decrease if a sugar tax were to be introduced. (Cf costs.)
