Homework Tasks Page

Lesson Sunday 17th July   Please do at least two of the tasks below.

Task 1: Write a paragraph analysing Salinger’s views/ depiction of Holden

  • see pp 155-156, symbolism of the title/poem, the Cather in the Rye
  • see pp 168-169 – symbolism of the fall and the significance of William Stekel’s comments: difference of a mature man is that he is able to search/ to find something in the environment that is not immediately apparent or available.  

Task 2: Write a comparison/analysis of a similarly troubled youth

  • Arie Edie; (disaffected/unemployed youth); Nicole (self-harming victim); or the girl who self-cyberbullied.
  • Work on similarities and differences and descriptions.

Task 3: Write a paragraph based on the poem/views/passages of Night 

  • p. 42-43: the description of the SS officers, the Poem of Night: and the symbolism of the long night; presupposing that there is no day  – reference to the children; analyse the images attached to day/night.
  • P 77 – graphically poignant death of the young angelic child; lack of justice and loss of hope  = parallel
  • or a similar paragraph about injustice

Passages from Galileo: views/values and attitudes of people in a position of power and influence. (cf Archbishop Pell).

 Task 4: Language Analysis Task: comparative paragraph

Using our Green or Orange Books pls write a short paragraph analysis so that I can check our metalanguage.

  • Write a comparative paragraph for language analysis. Exercise 22, p. 36 Sport Talk
  • See Now Turn to Exercise (Kongton Primary School)
    • See Exercise 18 and Exercise 19, pp – 30-32.
