Task 1: Please re-read the editorial: Pet death toll shames Victorians
- identify two statements that show the editor’s attitude and that advise the government about some action that must be taken.
- identify two to three emotive words and phrases.
- write one paragraph using the following Topic Sentence: “It is imperative that the government bans puppy factories which are shamelessly producing an over-supply of puppies purely based on profit.” Refer to Yellow Book; p. 21 (evidence) and p. 39 (paragraph plan).

Task 2: Please re-read the short passage from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol
- Write a short description of Scrooge’s attitude to Christmas.
- Write a short description of the nephew’s attitude to Christmas.
Task 3: Using this interaction as a guide, write a short dialogue between two people showing a difference of opinion/conflict. Please try to capture their tone, attitude and stance. The aim is to use dialogue to build a character.
